GREEN POLICY

We aim to provide a good, quality service for our guests whilst minimising the environmental impact of our activities.

As a commitment to this aim we are members of the Green Tourism Business Scheme which provides a structured approach to achieve this goal.

By encouraging sustainable practices we aim to contribute to ensuring the continued enjoyment of the Cairngorms National Park for future generations.

We are committed to:

  • Adhering to good environmental practice
  • Reducing environmental impact
  • Reducing polluting activities

OUR ACHIEVEMENTS - So far!

Green Tourism Business Scheme

We are pleased to have achieved the Green Tourism Business Scheme Gold Award. For full details of the scheme visit: Green Tourism Business Scheme

Biomass Boiler

In January 2010 we installed a wood fuel boiler, replacing our ancient polluting LPG boiler. This was installed with the support of the Forestry Commission and funding from the Scottish Rural Development Programme and the Energy Saving Trust.

This will save about 10 tonnes of carbon emissions per year and provide our guests with a comfortable environment and lashings of 'green' hot water.

Recycling

We recycle: cardboard; glass; paper; cans; Tetra Paks; plastic; metals; wood; etc. However, being in the Highland Region we appreciate that the carbon footprint of transport may exceed that of the product recycled.

Towel Policy

We operate a towel policy whereby guests are encouraged to re-use items to save on unnecessary laundry activities.

Where possible, considering the prevailing climate, line drying is used in preference to tumble drying.

All our appliances are A rated.

Local Sourcing

We buy all of our breakfast meat products from the local butcher - Mr Mike Mustard.

We use our excellent local Village Shop and Post Office on a regular basis.

Other products are sourced locally from local outlets such as the local smokery; travelling wet fishman; local shops in Grantown and Aviemore.

Jams and marmalades are produced 'in-house' where possible form ingredients picked locally.
